Enjoy storytelling with Shannon Cason by the fire, an open mic session where you can share what legacy means to you, and take part in the legacy scavenger hunt. Warm up with hot chocolate, s'mores, and popcorn, and bring your own sled if there's snow. We'll also have a coat drive, arts and crafts, and more throughout the day!

Celebrate the installation opening of “New Forest, Ancient Thrones” by Sidewalk Detroit’s artist-in-residence Jordan Weber, a New York-based regenerative land sculptor and activist who works at the intersection of social justice and environmental apartheid through grassroots collaboration in industrial polluted neighborhoods. Festivities will commence starting at 2pm with an unveiling ceremony, live music, performances, and remarks by Jordan Weber, Sidewalk Detroit, and Canfield Consortium.“NewForest, Ancient Thrones” is a new permanent sculpture that honors the resiliency of the East Canfield neighborhood and the dedication of its residents to continue the fight against environmental racism and the climate crisis.

Adult participants will have the option to wade into the river (waders provided) to pull out trash, and volunteers of all ages will help haul the trash to the road and begin cleaning it for an exciting community-built art installation led by local artist Halima Cassells (more details on Earth Week and this Eco Artist Residency to come!) In case of rain, this event date will move to May 4, 10am-2pm.
